SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced and highly competent Director, Structural Engineering to lead and oversee the Structural Engineering function of the organisation. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical leadership, managing structural engineering projects, reviewing designs, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards, and providing strategic direction to the structural engineering team.

The role requires a strong combination of technical expertise, project management, leadership, business development, and client relationship management skills.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and provide technical direction for structural engineering projects from design through construction.
  • Review and approve structural designs, calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable Nigerian and international codes, standards, safety, and quality requirements.
  • Manage project scope, timelines, budgets, resources, risks, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate structural engineering activities with other disciplines and participate in project meetings and site inspections.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage the structural engineering team while promoting professional development and high performance.
  • Implement quality assurance and control procedures and ensure proper project documentation and compliance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support during construction, review contractor submissions, and resolve structural issues on site.
  • Identify business development opportunities and support tenders, proposals, and the growth of the structural engineering portfolio.
  • Prepare and present technical and departmental reports and provide strategic recommendations to management.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, standards, quality, and departmental performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • A Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering or a related field is an added advantage.
  • Professional engineering registration/membership with a recognised professional body is required; relevant Nigerian professional certification such as COREN registration will be highly advantageous.
  • Minimum of 15 – 20 years of progressive experience in structural engineering, with significant experience in a senior leadership or management position.
  • Proven experience managing complex structural engineering projects from design through construction.
  • Strong knowledge of structural analysis, design principles, construction methods, and engineering standards.
  • Proficiency in relevant structural engineering and design software such as STAAD.Pro, ETABS, SAP2000, SAFE, Tekla Structures, AutoCAD, Revit, or equivalent platforms.
  • Strong understanding of relevant Nigerian and international structural design codes and standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in technical design review, quality control, and project management.
    Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of consultancy/project business operations.
    Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent report-writing, presentation, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • High level of professional integrity, accountability, and attention to detail.
