Sterling Bank, Microsoft others to drive EV innovation through hackathon



Sterling Bank, in collaboration with GFA Technologies, Microsoft, The Garage, and Oando Clean Energy, recently hosted the final pitch of the electric mobility innovation hackathon. The theme of the hackathon, ‘Accelerating Nigerian Talent, Building out Nigeria’s e-Mobility Ecosystem’, was aimed at advancing electric vehicle technology in Nigeria.

Akin Akingbogun, the head of Mobility and Projects, Renewable Energy at Sterling Bank, highlighted the bank’s commitment to fostering sustainable energy solutions in the transport sector. He stated, “Our participation underscores our dedication to driving the adoption of electric vehicles in Nigeria. We believe in promoting innovation and sustainability in transportation, and platforms like the hackathon enable us to explore ground-breaking ideas aligned with our vision.”

The hackathon was organized by GFA Technologies in collaboration with Microsoft, and supported by Sterling Bank and Oando Clean Energy Ltd. It provided start-ups and entrepreneurs with essential skills, resources, and networking opportunities. The benefits of participating in the hackathon included access to corporate partnerships, market expansion opportunities, investor connections, funding avenues, and capacity building in critical business areas.

During the final presentation of the pitch, Trekk Scooters was awarded the top prize of N3m, with Helgg securing second place and Celloop coming in third. The collaborative effort between Sterling Bank and its partners showcased their dedication to driving innovation and sustainability in Nigeria’s transportation sector.
