Job Summary
The Painting Assistant plays a key role in supporting the smooth operation of all art sessions and creative experiences at the Art Café. Working closely with the Lead Artist and workshop facilitators, the role involves the preparation and organisation of art materials, maintenance of workspaces, and the delivery of excellent customer support. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, enthusiastic about the creative arts, and committed to maintaining a welcoming and inspiring environment for all café patrons.
Key Responsibilities
Workshop Preparation & Setup
Prepare art materials such as palettes, brushes, canvases, and paints ahead of workshops and studio sessions.
Set up easels, worktables, protective coverings, and designated painting zones as required.
Ensure all tools and supplies are in place and accessible to participants before sessions begin.
Workspace Maintenance & Clean-Up
Clean brushes, palettes, and art tools thoroughly after each session.
Maintain tidy and sanitised workstations, sink areas, and storage spaces.
Restock consumable supplies including paints, paper, and canvases in a timely manner.
Support proper disposal of art-related waste in line with safety and hygiene standards.
Customer Interaction & Support
Assist clients in selecting suitable canvas sizes and paint types.
Offer basic guidance on the use of materials and post-session clean-up.
Uphold a warm, helpful, and professional attitude to enhance the customer experience.
Inventory Monitoring & Supplies Management
Monitor stock levels of art supplies and report restocking needs to the Lead Artist or Manager.
Help organise and store materials for ease of access and safety.
Assist in receiving, checking, and storing deliveries of new supplies.
Team & Operational Support
Carry out general art café duties as assigned, contributing to daily operations and special events.
Promote a positive, creative, and collaborative team atmosphere.
Qualifications & Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent practical experience in a creative or studio setting will also be considered.
Previous experience in an art studio, hospitality, or retail environment is desirable, particularly roles involving customer service and organisation. Familiarity with art materials and workshop environments is an advantage.
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to follow directions and work independently when needed.
Basic knowledge of painting materials, tools, and care techniques.

Team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Physically able to lift supplies, stand for long periods, and perform routine cleaning tasks.
