Position Summary
The Export Manager oversees all activities related to the sourcing, processing, documentation, and shipment of agricultural commodities to international markets. The role ensures full compliance with trade regulations, drives operational efficiency, manages relationships with suppliers and international buyers, and contributes to the company’s revenue growth through strategic export planning.
Key Responsibilities
1. Export Operations & Logistics
– Manage end-to-end export processes, from order confirmation to final shipment.
– Coordinate with logistics partners, freight forwarders, shipping lines, and inspection agencies.
– Ensure timely booking of vessels, container allocation, and shipment tracking.
– Monitor cargo handling, warehousing, fumigation, aggregation, and quality assurance.
– Oversee export documentation including:
· Form M, NXP, Proforma Invoice, Bill of Lading, Phytosanitary Certificates, SONCAP/NAFDAC (if applicable), Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Certificate of Origin
2. Compliance & Regulatory Management
– Ensure all export activities comply with Nigerian and international trade regulations.
– Maintain updated knowledge of customs requirements, FX policies, and global commodity standards.
– Liaise with government agencies: NEPC, Customs, Quarantine Service, CBN, NAFDAC, SON, etc.
– Ensure adherence to quality control and international buyer specifications.
3. Sourcing & Supplier Management
– Identify reliable suppliers and aggregators for commodities such as cashew nuts, cocoa, sesame seeds, ginger, hibiscus, etc.
– Negotiate competitive prices and ensure consistent supply quality.
– Monitor market prices, commodity trends, and seasonal availability.
– Build long-term supply chain partnerships.
4. Market Development & Buyer Relations
– Identify and evaluate international markets to expand export opportunities.
– Build relationships with offshore buyers in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
– Negotiate contracts, payment terms, and quality standards.
– Manage buyer communications and resolve export-related disputes.
5. Commercial & Financial Management
– Prepare export budgets, costings, and profitability analysis.
– Manage LC (Letter of Credit), TT (Telegraphic Transfer), and DP/DA payment terms.
– Monitor forex transactions, currency risks, and bank negotiations.
– Track revenue performance and operational costs.
6. Team Leadership & Reporting
– Supervise export officers, documentation staff, warehouse teams, and field agents.
– Provide regular reports on export performance, risks, and opportunities.
– Develop SOPs, workflow processes, and operational guidelines.
– Train team members on export documentation, quality handling, and compliance.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Business Administration, International Trade, Supply Chain Management, or related fields.
Professional certifications (NEPC Export Training, FIATA, Supply Chain, Trade Finance) is an added advantage.
Experience
3–7 years in export operations, preferably in agricultural commodities.
Strong understanding of international trade rules (Incoterms, LC, Customs Procedures).
Experience managing large-volume shipments and exporter–buyer relations.
