Livestock Farm Foreman

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Livestock Farm Foreman to oversee daily operations on our livestock farm. The Foreman will be responsible for managing livestock care, supervising farm staff, and ensuring that farming operations are carried out efficiently and in compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a passion for animal welfare, and a commitment to maintaining a productive and safe farm environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Livestock Management:
-Oversee the care and welfare of all animals on the farm, including feeding, health monitoring, breeding, and ensuring proper shelter and living conditions.

-Monitor the health of livestock, administer medications as needed, and coordinate with veterinarians for regular check-ups and emergency treatments.
-Ensure all animals are fed and watered according to established schedules and nutritional guidelines.

Team Supervision & Leadership:
-Supervise and coordinate the activities of farm workers and laborers, ensuring they perform tasks according to established procedures.

Lead by example, providing hands-on training, guidance, and performance feedback to staff.
-Assign tasks to workers and ensure efficient use of time and resources.

Farm Operations Oversight:
-Ensure day-to-day farm operations are carried out efficiently, from feeding schedules to cleaning and maintenance of barns, pens, and equipment.

-Assist with the operation and maintenance of farm equipment, machinery, and tools.
-Ensure farm processes follow safety protocols and environmental standards.
Record Keeping & Reporting:
-Maintain accurate records of livestock health, breeding, and production data.

-Track inventory of feed, medicines, and other supplies.
-Report any issues related to farm operations, livestock health, or staffing to the Farm Manager.

Safety & Compliance:
-Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding animal care, farm safety, and environmental standards.

-Enforce safety protocols and encourage a culture of safety across the farm.
-Assist in ensuring the farm meets organic or certification standards, if applicable.

Maintenance & Equipment Management:
-Oversee the maintenance and repair of farm infrastructure, such as barns, fences, gates, and other livestock facilities.

-Coordinate the repair and upkeep of farm machinery and tools, ensuring all equipment is in good working condition.
Financial Management:
-Assist in budgeting and cost control efforts for the farm, including tracking labour, feed, and equipment costs.

-Identify areas for operational improvement to enhance productivity and reduce costs.

Requirements:

Education:

-BSc./HND in Agriculture, Animal Science or a related field
-Additional certifications or training in agriculture, animal science, or a related field preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in livestock farming or related agricultural fields, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role.
Experience with managing livestock, farm equipment, and farm labour is essential.

Skills & Abilities:

-Strong leadership, supervisory, and team management skills.
-Knowledge of livestock care, including feeding, health     management, and breeding practices.
-Ability to perform physical tasks and work in various weather conditions.
-Good problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions quickly and effectively.
-Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact with farm staff, management, and external partners.
-Basic knowledge of farm equipment maintenance and repair.
Physical Requirements:

-Ability to lift and carry heavy loads (up to 50 lbs).
-Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
-Willingness to work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position with occasional weekend and holiday work required.
