Role Overview
As an Accountant you will be responsible for managing all financial operations, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, compliance with organisational policies, and adherence to relevant regulatory standards. Your role will also involve financial tracking, reporting, payment processing, and collaboration with the administrative team to enhance transparency and accountability in the foundation’s financial practices.

 

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

Maintain accurate financial records by categorising expenses into appropriate cost centres, such as administrative costs, programme expenses, and event costs.
Prepare detailed financial reports, including reconciliations, past and current expense records, and quarterly financial summaries for review.
Prepare and present the company’s yearly financial reports, ensuring they provide a comprehensive overview of financial activities.
Ensure the reconciliation of financial records with bank statements and accounts payable/receivable.
Monitor cash flow to ensure the availability of funds for operational needs.

Document Management & Internal Controls

Establish and manage a secure digital filing system (e.g., Google Drive) for financial documents, ensuring all receipts, invoices, and supporting documents are properly organised and accessible.
Ensure accurate documentation and tracking of all transactions, including petty cash expenses and major purchases.
Develop and maintain quarterly categorised reports for enhanced financial clarity and audit readiness.
Transition financial processes from informal methods to a structured system with robust documentation and internal controls.

Account & Payment Management

Serve as a signatory to the organisation’s accounts, ensuring all transactions are authorised and documented.
Initiate and oversee payment processes in collaboration with the account officer, maintaining professional and transparent communication.
Ensure timely submission and verification of receipts for all financial transactions.
Investigate and document explanations for any missing receipts, understanding that non-compliance may impact performance evaluations.

Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure compliance with the company’s financial policies and applicable regulatory standards.
Identify and address potential financial risks, providing solutions to mitigate their impact.

Collaboration & Strategic Support

Collaborate closely with the administrative team to ensure seamless financial workflows and effective communication.
Support the company’s efforts to enhance operational efficiency, accountability, and transparency in financial management.
Provide input and guidance on budget planning and financial forecasting.

Data Protection & Confidentiality

Uphold strict confidentiality standards when handling all financial information.
Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and internal policies.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
3–5 years of experience in accounting or financial management, preferably in a non-profit or social impact organisation.
Strong experience in financial reporting, reconciliation, budgeting, and internal controls.
