Chukwuma Nweke becomes new deputy managing director of UBA



United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA) has named Chukwuma Nweke as deputy managing director, pending approval by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), effective from October 1, 2024.

Nweke holds a bachelor’s degree in accountancy and an MBA from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and an honorary member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria. With over 30 years of experience in various aspects of banking, Nweke previously served as executive director and Group chief operating officer at UBA.

UBA Chairman, Tony Elumelu, highlighted Nweke’s expertise and track record, underscoring the commitment to strong leadership and governance within the organization.

The company also announced the retirement of non-executive director, Kayode Fasola, who has been part of the UBA Group board since August 2018. Fasola’s contributions were acknowledged, with the board expressing gratitude and best wishes for his future endeavors.
