Role Overview
As the Compliance Manager, you will own and execute Milsat’s global and regional compliance strategy, regulatory frameworks, data governance, and enterprise risk management.
Reporting directly to executive leadership, you will lead complex corporate KYB/vendor due diligence, safeguard data privacy standards across cross-border geospatial datasets, manage government licensing for field operations and mapping, and draft high-stakes B2B and institutional contracts. You will be instrumental in enabling business growth while protecting Milsat from legal, regulatory, and reputational risk.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Regulatory Governance & Data Privacy Leadership
- Formulate, implement, and oversee Milsat’s overarching compliance framework, aligning operations with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA), NDPR, GDPR, and emerging African data laws.
- Lead Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and privacy-by-design audits across Milsat’s product roadmap, APIs, IoT sensors, and AI location-intelligence models.
- Establish ethical data governance policies for large-scale field enumeration, satellite/spatial data pipelines, and public-sector integrations.
- Serve as the primary Liaison and Data Protection Officer (DPO) interfacing with regulatory bodies (NITDA, NDPB, survey regulatory boards, security agencies).
Enterprise KYB, Third-Party & Counterparty Due Diligence
- Architect and manage end-to-end Know Your Business (KYB) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) protocols for multinational enterprise clients, government entities, and international NGOs.
- Perform risk-based assessments of complex corporate structures, Ultimate Beneficial Ownership (UBO), politically exposed entities, and sanctions lists.
- Establish oversight, background vetting, and compliance standards for Milsat’s widespread field enumerator networks, drone pilots, and regional data collection vendors.
Commercial Contracting & Legal Operations
- Lead negotiations, drafting, and execution of high-value B2B commercial agreements, including Data
- Transfer Agreements, Master Services Agreements (MSAs), Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and enterprise API licensing.
- Manage external legal counsel on specialized corporate matters, intellectual property (IP) protection, and dispute resolution.
Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) & Board Reporting
- Design, maintain, and report on the corporate Risk Register, identifying emerging legal, operational, and geospatial compliance risks.
- Conduct regular internal audits and establish automated compliance tracking mechanisms for field and tech operations.
- Prepare compliance metrics, risk updates, and regulatory reports for the Board of Directors and Executive Management.
- Drive cross-functional compliance alignment with Product, Engineering, Sales, and Field Operations teams.
Requirements
4+ years of progressive professional experience in Legal Operations, Regulatory Compliance, Data Governance, or Corporate Law
Background in fast-growing tech platforms, geospatial/data companies, telecom, infrastructure, or specialized technology law practices.
Deep mastery of data privacy frameworks (NDPA/NDPR, GDPR) and experience executing cross-border data protection strategies.
Proven track record drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial tech contracts (MSAs, SLAs, Data Sharing Agreements).
Hands-on expertise conducting complex KYB, UBO verification, and vendor risk management.
Experience engaging regulatory authorities, securing operational permits/licenses, or handling public-sector procurement compliance.
Exceptional leadership, stakeholder management, and executive communication skills.
LL.B / BL or relevant advanced degree in Law, Governance, or Risk Management preferred.
